The Shire Valley Transformation Project is a flagship project that aims a transforming the livelihood of the people of Chikhwawa and Nsanje districts in particular. The project is meant to provide irrigation infrastructure that could irrigate a total of 42,000 hectares of land.
The operations and management of the main irrigation scheme would be done by a private operator through an enhance management contract under PPP framework.
The International Financing Corporation (IFC) commenced the preparation of the procurement documents and has finalized the following documents;
· Request for Qualification (RFQ) documents
· Advert for the RFQ
· Irrigation Water Purchase Agreement
Once these documents are completed the procurement process will be rolled out.

The PPP project cycle covers five distinct phases; project identification, initial viability assessment, project preparation and development, project procurement and the post contract phase.
