PPPC Commission and Management Visit Shire Valley Transformation Project

The Chairperson of the Public Private Partnership (PPPC), Mrs. Stella Maluza Sesanga, led a delegation of Commissioners and senior management from the PPPC on a field visit to the Shire Valley Transformation Project (SVTP) in Chikwawa.


The visit. which took place on 24 April 2025, aimed to appreciate the project's progress, understand its implementation framework, and recognise its potential impact on transforming Malawi's agricultural sector. 


The delegation toured key project sites, including the intake structure along the Shire River, the irrigation canals, and areas under land preparation. They engaged with SVTP officials and interacted with engineers working on site, gaining valuable insight into the project's scale and ambition.


Speaking during the visit, the Chairperson of the PPPC, Mrs Sesanga, expressed her admiration for the progress being made and the vision driving the project forward.

"This is a vision for the country, and it is very exciting to see how it is progressing," she said. "These are the projects we want to see projects with high impact for the nation. We are glad to see all your work and the sheer magnitude of the project."


Mr. Stanley Chakhumbula Khaila, the SVTP Project Coordinator, welcomed the PPPC delegation and shared the project's aspirations.


"It's an honour, and we are thankful for your coming. You're bringing new aspects that have challenged us," he said. "This is a pilot for agriculture in the country, and when complete, it will truly revolutionise agriculture in Malawi, as it can be replicated anywhere."


The Shire Valley Transformation Project is one of Malawi's flagship investments in commercial irrigation agriculture. it is financed by the Government of Malawi with assistance from the World Bank. The project aims to enhance productivity, improve food security, and uplift livelihoods in the Lower Shire Valley. The PPPC remain committed to supporting and championing projects that contribute significantly to Malawi's socio-economic development.
