The Public Private Partnership Commission (PPPC) is pleased to announce the signing of a landmark agreement for the Domwe Island Picnic Site development. The contract was finalized between the Ministry of Tourism, represented by Principal Secretary Mr. Chauncy Simwaka, and Cape View Picnic Adventures Limited, represented by its Director, Mr. Chikonde. This collaboration represents a significant milestone in advancing eco-tourism in Malawi.

The signing ceremony, which was witnessed by PPPC Chief Executive Officer Mr. Patrick Kabambe as well as Director of Projects, marked the culmination of extensive efforts to identify and engage a capable private sector partner for this initiative. The Domwe Island Picnic Site project aligns with Malawi’s goals for sustainable development, leveraging the country’s natural resources to promote economic growth while ensuring environmental preservation.

Located within the stunning Lake Malawi National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, Domwe Island offers a pristine environment for outdoor enthusiasts and nature lovers. Through this partnership, Cape View Picnic Adventures will develop and manage world-class facilities, creating unique leisure experiences for both domestic and international tourists.

“This agreement is a step forward in enhancing eco-tourism and creating sustainable opportunities for communities around Domwe Island,” said Mr. Simwaka. “The Ministry of Tourism is committed to fostering partnerships that protect our environment while contributing to the growth of the tourism sector.”

The project is set to generate employment for local communities, both during the construction phase and in the long-term operations of the picnic site. Additionally, revenue from the site will contribute to conservation efforts and the maintenance of the Lake Malawi National Park.

As a key enabler of public-private partnerships in Malawi, the PPPC is proud to facilitate this collaboration. “This partnership is a shining example of how the public and private sectors can work together to unlock the potential of our natural assets,” said Mr. Kabambe. “It underscores the importance of sustainable development in achieving national goals.”

The Domwe Island Picnic Site contract represents another successful initiative under the PPPC’s mandate to drive innovation, attract investment, and deliver transformative projects for Malawians.
